Sri Matre Namaha

Bhavanashini – The One Hundred & Seventy Fifth name in Lalitha Sahasranamam.

bhava (=samsaram), nasayatiti tatha

She who destroys the samsara ( i.e., the cycle of death and birth)

Bhava = samsara = cycle of death and birth.

The person who worships her with faith and devotion becomes free from wordly bondages.

Bhavanashini : Bhava means Bondage / Bonding with Material Life and Nashini means Destroyer

According to the brhatjabalopanishad, Bhavanasini is the name of a river

(Bhakta Ramadas in his Keerthana he used Bhava Sagaram which means Ocean of Bondage)

She destroys the cycles of birth and death of Her devotees. This cycle of birth and death is called samsara. This nama means that when She is worshipped in Her formless form, one becomes free of bondages. Bondage is the cause for samsara or bondage itself is samsara.

‘Those who worship me giving up all their activities unto me and being devoted to me without deviation, engaged in devotional service and always meditating upon me, having fixed their mind upon me, for them I am the swift deliverer from the ocean of birth and death’ says Krishna in Gita XII.7. This is the apt definition for ‘devotee’.
